Holiday Fitness: Simple Strategies for Enjoying the Season

how-to-stay-fit-during-the-holidays-2025

The holidays are a time for family, traditions, and yes — delicious food. But if you’ve ever felt like you had to choose between enjoying yourself and sticking to your fitness goals, you’re not alone.

Here’s the good news: you don’t have to sacrifice one for the other. With a few simple strategies, you can stay consistent with your workouts, feel strong and energized, and still savor the holiday season.

Let’s break it down.

1. Focus on Consistency, Not Perfection

The holidays are busy. Between travel, events, and family time, your usual routine might look different — and that’s okay. Instead of stressing about “perfect” workouts, aim for consistent movement.

Even a quick 20–30 minute workout can boost your energy and help you feel grounded. Think short strength circuits, bodyweight workouts, or kettlebell flows that you can do at home without much equipment.

👉 Pro tip: Schedule your workouts like appointments so they don’t get lost in the shuffle.

2. Keep Your Nutrition Simple (and Flexible)

Holiday food is meant to be enjoyed! Rather than skipping your favorite treats, balance them out with nourishing meals.

  • Fill half your plate with veggies first.
  • Prioritize protein at each meal (think turkey, salmon, or plant-based protein).
  • Stay hydrated — sometimes that mid-afternoon slump is just dehydration.

And remember: one meal won’t derail your progress. It’s what you do consistently that counts.

3. Add a “Holiday Twist” to Your Workouts

Fitness doesn’t have to feel like a chore during the holidays. Add festive fun to your routine!

🎄 Try a “12 Days of Christmas” workout challenge.
🎶 Put on a holiday playlist for a dance-inspired cardio session.
🕯️ Light candles or set up cozy vibes for a relaxing yoga or mobility flow.

When your workouts feel fun, you’ll look forward to them — even during the busiest weeks.

4. Build Mindset Habits That Last

The holidays often bring added stress. Movement and mindset go hand in hand, so take a few minutes each day to reset.

  • Start your morning with a gratitude list.
  • Use journaling prompts like: “How do I want to feel at the end of this holiday season?”
  • Give yourself permission to rest without guilt.

Fitness is as much mental as it is physical. Protecting your mindset will help you stay consistent when things get hectic.

5. Get Support + Accountability

It’s easy to fall off track when you’re going it alone. But with accountability — whether through a group challenge, a coach, or a workout buddy — you’ll stay motivated.

This November, I’m leading a 28-Day Holiday Challenge that’s all about staying consistent while still enjoying the season. We’ll combine festive workouts, holiday recipe swaps, and mindset coaching to help you feel strong, balanced, and confident heading into the New Year.

Staying fit during the holidays isn’t about restriction or punishment. It’s about giving yourself the gift of consistency, energy, and confidence — while still enjoying all the moments that matter most.

This season, let’s ditch the all-or-nothing mindset and focus on what really works: simple, consistent habits that make you feel your best.
